Funeral service for David Michael Hegwood, 53, Fletcher, will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 14, 2012 at the Fletcher High School Gymnasium with Reverend Rodney Campbell, officiating. Burial will follow at the Walters Cemetery under the direction of the Fletcher Funeral Home.

Mr. Hegwood passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at his home in Fletcher. He was 53 years, 2 months, and 28 days old.

David Hegwood was born January 14, 1959 in Chenon, France to Walter Franklin “Frank” and Edith Faye (Stites) Hegwood. Because his father was in the military, he also lived in Karlsrue, Germany and Fort Lewis, Washington before settling in Lawton in 1967. He attended Eisenhower High School where he graduated in May of 1977. After graduating from high school, David started his career at Arkla, now Centerpoint Energy. David and his wife Tonya Chemah were married at Walters Baptist Church March 3, 1979. The two celebrated their 33 year wedding anniversary this year. They have two children, Sunny Kay and Hunter Michael. David had been involved with numerous boards, committees, and philanthropic organizations, including the Chambers of Commerce of Duncan, Chickasha, Lawton, and Elgin, The March of Dimes, The United Way, Cameron University President’s Leadership Foundation, The Oklahoma Gas Association, and The State Chamber of Oklahoma. He was recognized many times for his outstanding skills and leadership abilities and received numerous company and industry awards. He attended The First Baptist Church of Fletcher, and was involved in the annual Beast Feast. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and four-wheeling with friends and family in Colorado, as well as Fletcher baseball, and Sooner football. Upon returning home last week from Houston where he had been at MD Anderson Cancer Center for nearly a year, he was blessed to have been surrounded by family and friends that showered him with love and support in his final days. David loved life and people. He was a wonderful husband, dad, son, son-in-law, and friend. He will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Tonya Hegwood, of the home; 1 daughter, Sunny Lybarger and her husband Josh, of Sahuarita, AZ; 1 son, Hunter Hegwood, of the home; his mother, Edith Hegwood, of Lawton; 1 sister, Patty Nolen, of Lawton; his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Charles and Donna Chemah of Walters; 1 sister-in-law, Teresa Chemah, of Walters; and 4 nieces: Evelyn Hegwood, Caitlin Renz, Jennifer Adams, and Kim Johnson.

He is preceded in death by his father, Frank Hegwood and 1 brother, Wesley Hegwood.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations instead be made to either the Halo House Foundation, 4700 Tartan Ln. Houston, TX 77025 or the Falls Creek Building Fund at Fletcher First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 359 Fletcher, OK 73541.
